Drawings
FEW LINES – GREAT EXPRESSION
My drawings are created in Munich on the basis of my own photographs. From these images, I develop minimalist figure drawings and ink drawings with a deliberately reduced visual language.
With just a few strokes, I aim to make movement, humour and humanity visible. The drawing thus becomes a free interpretation rather than an exact reproduction of the subject.
Humour, vitality and humanity
Drawings by Jörg Herz, Munich artist
The basis is usually one of my own photographs. The photos do not serve as a template for the most accurate possible reproduction, but as a starting point for a free artistic interpretation. With just a few lines, I try to make movement, character and mood visible. What interests me is not the exact likeness of a person, but what emerges between the lines.
The drawings are deliberately reduced. Each line has a purpose; anything superfluous is left out. It is precisely this simplicity that leaves room for your own imagination and lends the works a sense of lightness. Many drawings show people in everyday situations, in motion, or in moments whose special impact often only unfolds at second glance.
Minimalist figure drawings and ink drawings are created in which the spontaneous character of the line is preserved. Humour, vitality and humanity run like a common thread through the series. The drawing remains deliberately open and focuses on what is essential.
Many motifs later serve as the basis for sculptures or paintings. At the same time, the drawings are independent works that show how a new, autonomous visual language can emerge from one’s own photographic observation with just a few lines.
